Sandy Bland, CTSM (2002)
Marketing Project Manager, Dice.com – IA
Sandy Bland is the Marketing Manager responsible for Trade Show and Event Marketing for Dice Career Solutions. Dice.com is the nation’s number #1-ranked job board for people with technology skills and the companies that hire them. Dice attends up to 35 shows each year and has begun to incorporate private events in more recent months. Sandy has been able to strengthen the company’s trade show presence and drastically improve the company’s ROI and ROO ever since beginning the process of accomplishing her CTSM designation. Some of the primary improvements include implementing a closed-loop method of handling show leads, upgrading booth properties including the custom-design of a new 20 x 20 booth, ensuring that all staff members receive boothsmanship training and implementing post-show reporting for executives in the firm.

These improvements, as well as many others, have significantly elevated the importance of trade shows within her organization’s marketing communications mix. Even during the economic downturn following 9/11, the company has continued to support trade shows as a primary means of attracting and retaining customers and job seekers to the web site.

On a personal level, Sandy has reaped the benefits of certification. She has rapidly accelerated her learning curve by taking the valuable courses offered at Exhibitor Show. Her company has recognized her efforts by bestowing her with the first ever “Above & Beyond” Award, generous annual salary increases and bonuses based on performance.

Tip to Program Newcomers:
The CTSM program offers wonderful training in the nuts and bolts of event management. Be receptive to the new ideas you learn in the classes and make an action plan to incorporate something new into your event marketing program each time you return home.
