Diane E. Benson, CTSM (1996)
Associate Manager of Conventions, Amersham Health – NY
During the period leading up to my certification in 1996, the company who sponsored my CTSM education merged with another company, moved to another state, and downsized, leaving me and numerous other Maryland employees looking for new challenges. I accepted that challenge as an opportunity to grow my career on the supplier side of the exhibit industry and moved from Maryland to New Jersey in late 1995 to accept a position as Director of Marketing and Client Services for Exponents New York, a builder of custom modular display booths.

I received my CTSM certification in February 1996, during which time my employer was proud to boast that they were the only exhibit house in the World with a CTSM on staff. Working with an exhibit house afforded me the opportunity to manage the exhibit marketing efforts for clients across many different industries, from Telecommunications, to Food and Beverage, to Healthcare, Pets, Jewelry, Computers, Semiconductors, and many others; and my CTSM education had prepared me well for all of these.

Five years later, in November of 2000, I moved back to the exhibitor side as the Associate Manager of Conventions for Amersham Health, the world leader in medical diagnostic and radiotherapy products. At Amersham Health, I manage an exhibit program that encompasses more than 75 shows each year, something which would be impossible to do effectively without having graduated from the CTSM program.

"The best thing I can say about the CTSM program is not only that the education is top-notch, but that you build such valuable contacts and friendships. The networking opportunities are tremendous within the program. Both of my job opportunities (Exponents New York and Amersham Health) came to me because people within the exhibit industry who knew me and knew I was in the CTSM program or a CTSM graduate asked if I would be interested. I didn't go looking for these jobs, and they weren't advertised. The opportunities are there if you want them and if you have built solid relationships."
