Jamia Cotten, CTSM (2004)

“My first experience in meeting management began after receiving my Bachelor's of Journalism in Public Relations from The University of Texas at Austin. I was employed by the University of Houston Law Foundation where I managed Continuing Legal Education (CLE) 2-day seminars across the state of Texas for attorneys, insurance adjusters and CPAs to maintain their professional licenses.

‘I joined Compaq Computer Corporation in 1998 as one of five executive briefing managers. My responsibilities included working with the field to identify potential and current customers' needs which would be addressed during their visits to our Customer Centre through presentations and tours. Two years later I moved into Compaq's Corporate Trade Show and Events group where I proceeded to learn the art of trade show management.

‘In August of 2002, after the merger of Compaq and Hewlett-Packard I moved into one of the four core business units: Enterprise Systems Group (ESG) and took on the role of ESG Worldwide Event Manager. My charter was to manage the worldwide trade show and event calendar and work with the event teams globally to establish and identify best practices and establish a company-wide measurement program.

‘I left Hewlett-Packard in August 2003 to start my own corporate trade show and event management company called i've gotcha covered . Services offered include planning, site selection, consulting, onsite management and travel directing for corporate trade shows and events. Much has changed in my life and my career, but one thing remains as my foundation and continues to strengthen: my skill in tradeshow and event management.”
