hen PepsiCo Inc. exhibited at this American Bottlers of Carbonated Beverages show in 1940, it wasn’t just marketing its product — it was hiring, too. After the soft-drink maker introduced a 12-ounce bottle of soda that cost just a nickel during the Depression (twice the amount soda rival The Coca-Cola Co. offered for the same price), spurting sales created a need to recruit bottlers any place it could, including trade shows.
