GRAVITY FREE: HISTORY
The GRAVITY FREE Multidisciplinary Design Conference was launched in 2006 by Lee Knight, founder of EXHIBITOR
MEDIA GROUP which produces EXHIBITOR Magazine and the EXHIBITOR Conference and Exhibition. In 1985, he launched the first Exhibit
Design Competition to support and promote the highest quality design in the trade show industry. Now, as then, he remains a life-long
advocate for the essential and ubiquitous role of design in our life. This is why he created GRAVITY FREE as the first truly
multidisciplinary design conference for the 21st century, creating programs that showcase world-class designers from widely
different design disciplines.
GRAVITY FREE is truly unique. It is intentionally intimate. Attendance is limited to 500 designers. Each program is built on a
provocative theme: 2007 – “The Geography of Curiosity”; 2008 – “The Year of Dangerous Minds”. Each conference is two days and
showcases dozens of the most visionary designers on the planet. Formal presentations are limited to 18 minutes. The focus is ideas,
vision and passion. Q&A is never edited. There are no breakout sessions – everyone has the same experience. Easy access to
speakers is a hallmark of the event: Speakers even host their own informal roundtables, open to all attendees. The goal of
GRAVITY FREE is cross-pollination, to inspire innovation and inspiration among designers by cross-fertilizing ideas typically
found outside their normal frame of reference, a technique considered by experts on creativity to be among the most powerful and
enduring ways to energize personal imagination.
