GRAVITY FREE: HISTORY
The GRAVITY FREE Conference was launched in 2006 by Lee Knight, founder of EXHIBITOR MEDIA GROUP and life-long advocate for the essential and ubiquitous role of design in our life. He created GRAVITY FREE as the first truly multidisciplinary design conference for the 21st century, creating programs that use world-class designers from 20 different design disciplines. GRAVITY FREE is a "why" conference, not a "how to" conference. It’s goal is to inspire innovation by cross-fertilizing diverse ideas, a technique considered by experts on creativity to be among the most powerful and enduring ways to energize personal imagination.
With GRAVITY FREE 2007, the true multidisciplinary structure of the conference came into full bloom. The event introduced its first working theme, “The Geography of Curiosity”. The two and half day program included such world-class designers as:
KARIM RASHID PRODUCT DESIGNER
“How do you make
the boring better?” |
JEANNINE OPPEWALL FILM PRODUCTION DESIGNER
"What are the essentials of storytelling?" |
HENRY BEER URBAN PLANNERS
“Why do clients fire designers?” |
FRANK STEPHENSON AUTOMOTIVE DESIGNER
“Why is emotion the next battleground in design?” |
CAMERON SINCLAIR CRISIS ARCHITECT
“How can design make the world better for five billion people?” |
JIM GILMORE BUSINESS AUTHOR
“Why is 'real' important in contemporary culture?” |
HOMORO CANTU FOOD DESIGNER
“Why do we eat the way we do?” |
...and sixteen others. |
The conference drew raves reviews. Ron Pompei -- GRAVITY FREE speaker and designer of Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie retail stores – said GRAVITY FREE is “soulful”. And speaker Karin Fong -- Partner/Imaginary Forces and Emmy award winning movie title designer -- called GRAVITY FREE "the search engine of design excellence."
Today, GRAVITY FREE is personally managed by Lee Knight, who has pledged to nurture the concept that made the first Conference great: small, intimate and personally relevant.
His promise to you: COME CURIOUS. LEAVE INSPIRED.
