CHARLES WHITE III

Charlie White, called "the father of modern airbrush,” led a revolution in illustration through a career spanning over four decades. He studied at Art Center College of Design and started his first design in 1964. In 1967, he moved to New York City, where his energetic and often humorous artwork embodied the rebellious spirit of the times, giving new life to the field of illustration. Charlie's work, and the work of his contemporaries, helped pull American advertising art out from under the shadow of old-school illustration. In the process, his illustration and design for film and print became legendary. Clients include Lucas Films' Star Wars, Universal/MCA, MGM, FOX, Paramount and the Rolling Stones; Chiat Day, Esquire, Playboy, Time, and New York Magazine; 14 magazine covers for the Art Director of Yasei Jidai, Eiko Ishioka; Nike, Levi's, Coca-Cola; Volkswagen, Honda, Mazda.

Throughout his career, Charlie has worked with renowned designers and artists in many fields. He had long desired to create a studio where diverse disciplines can be drawn together in collaboration on large-scale projects. In 1991 he founded OLIO, Inc. to pursue this dream. As OLIO's President and Creative Director, Charlie uses a hands-on management approach inspiring each project team member to strive for creative excellence as he himself does regardless of the size of the task.

The myriad of projects Charlie’s directed include Universal CityWalk, Universal Experience, Beijing, China; Sam Goody Record Stores in North Shore Shopping Center, Boston, MA; Horton Plaza, San Diego, CA; Pacific Park, Santa Monica, CA; Discovery Island, Memphis, TN; Treasure Island (hotels/casinos) in Las Vegas, NV; Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas; and Disney’s California Adventure Backlot, Anaheim, CA; Point Marine Park, Durban, South Africa; Atlantis/The Palm, Jumeirah, Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Atlantis Hotel and Casino – Phases II and III, Paradise Island, Bahamas.
