CEIR Predict Examines MD and IT Sectors as Part of its Extensive Program
While some exhibitions in the Medical and Health Care (MD) sector have reported record attendance, others are struggling in the face of the Sequester and the Affordable Care Act. Long considered to be a highly successful sector, the next several years will require ingenuity. The Communications and Information Technology (IT) sector has been experiencing growth with rising consumer sentiment. Yet, there are challenges for both sectors, in which the entire exhibition industry needs to be aware. On 12 September at the Center for Exhibition Industry Research's (CEIR) Predict Conference in New York City, experts in the MD and IT sectors will discuss what is happening in relation to the sequester, restriction on government travel, and competition from third party events.
Moderated by UBM Tech Events President Marco Pardi, panelists include Healthcare Information and Management Systems (HIMSS) Chief Operating Officer R. Norris Orms, and International CES Senior Vice President Karen Chupka. Discussion will be focused on how regulatory requirements are expected to impact exhibitions in the technology area of the Health Care sector and the ancillary positive impact to medical exhibitions. Common to both the MD and IT sector is the impact the sequester is having and is expected to have, fringe events that may be launched and the need to diversify the marketplace.
"While the sequester is certainly impacting expositions, the IT side of healthcare has and will continue to receive significant incentive funding from the government for the next several years. The purpose of this funding is to create an IT foundation to support a more efficient and effective delivery of healthcare. All sectors need to consider their business imperatives related to their missions, maximize opportunities for revenue diversification globally, keep content relevant, and explore creative solutions to address exhibition needs. These are imperatives for HIMSS," said Orms.
"It's undeniable that many events are feeling the impact of the sequester," says Pardi. "At UBM Tech this allows us to get creative with our content and marketing and demonstrate the value our events provide as must-attend gatherings for those in the industries we serve. Our recent Black Hat event was one of the largest in history despite the sequester proving that our leading brands continue to demonstrate strength in challenging times."
Industry experts will discuss these challenges, and others, and the business strategies being utilized to counter.
