EuroShop 2014 Exceeds Expectations
The recent staging of EuroShop 2014, The World’s Leading Retail Trade Fair, exceeded the optimistic expectations of the sector by far: 109,000 trade visitors from 110 nations attended the event to get an extensive overview of the latest developments presented by 2,226 exhibitors from 57 countries. From the first day on, EuroShop 2014 was characterized by an excellent atmosphere due to many new leads and an unexpectedly high number of business deals closed.
Hans Werner Reinhard, Deputy Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf, was extremely pleased with the trade fair’s results, “All previous records of 2011 were broken! We are particularly delighted with the increasingly international flair and decision-making competence of our trade visitors.”
Two thirds of the EuroShop 2014 visitors came from countries other than Germany, with significantly higher numbers from overseas – both from North, Central and South America as
well as from the entire Asian region. Delegations of large retail chains from countries such as Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia and the U.S. attended EuroShop 2014. In terms of European countries, more trade visitors from the Eastern countries such as the Baltic region and the Russian Federation were represented at the trade show. According to a survey, 73% of all EuroShop visitors hold executive positions and two thirds of all attendees are involved in their company’s decision-making processes.
With its size and diversity, EuroShop 2014 provided a comprehensive overview of all important trends in the four segments: EuroConcept (shop fitting, architecture and store design, lighting, refrigeration and cooling systems), EuroSales (visual marketing and merchandising, POS-marketing), EuroCIS (retail technology) and EuroExpo (exhibition stand construction, design and events). Exhibiting companies included the market leaders from all these segments as well as young enterprises from growth markets.
“The trade fair days have confirmed - EuroShop is and will remain the most important meeting point for the retail world. And its importance goes far beyond this: Operators of exhibition centers from countries like Brazil, China and Japan travelled to EuroShop with dozens of stand construction contractors from their countries. Furthermore, we were able to welcome an especially large number of architects from home and abroad this year,” stated Hans Werner Reinhard.
Two aspects were the focus at EuroShop 2014: the staging and emotionalization of the shopping experience through spectacular shop fittings, innovative lighting concepts, creative design ideas and extraordinary materials which brick-and-mortar retail can use to compete against online shopping. In addition, the multi-channel topic -. integrating and linking the various different channels such as the offline, web and mobile businesses with the latest technologies - was omnipresent at EuroShop. In addition, energy-efficient lighting systems as well as energy-enhanced refrigeration systems and equipment for food retailers were main topics.
Michael Gerling, Managing Director of the EHI Retail Institute and Chairman of the EuroShop Exhibitors’ Advisory Council, was very satisfied with the success of EuroShop 2014. He said, “EuroShop 2014 offered everything in terms of the creative and technical solutions needed to shape up retail for the future.”
EuroShop clearly reflected the great willingness of retailers to invest, said Michael Gerling and added, “Total investment of retailers in the extension, remodeling and new construction of their stores amounted to EUR 6.8 billion in 2013 – a record level. For new store fittings alone retail companies invested EUR 1.75 billion last year and, hence, 25% more than in 2010.” At EuroShop, over 40% of all visitors stated they would be implementing concrete investment projects in the coming two years and were using EuroShop not only to learn about innovations but specifically to look for new suppliers and business partners.
Popular among the visitors were the practice-driven forums at EuroShop. In brief lectures, international experts informed about current issues from the areas of architecture and design, IT, multi-channel, sustainability and point of sale marketing.
The next staging of EuroShop is scheduled from March 5 - 9, 2017 in Düsseldorf, Germany. EuroCIS, which was part of EuroShop this year, will held as a stand- alone event from February 24 - 26, 2015 in Düsseldorf.
