IAEE Selects Doug Ducate as 2014 KLI Legend of the Industry
3/27/2014
The International Association of Exhibitions and Events™ (IAEE) announced that Doug Ducate, CEM, CMP has been selected as this year's "Legend of the Industry" for the IAEE Krakoff Leadership Institute to be held 2-4 August 2014 and IAEE Krakoff Advanced Leadership Institute to be held 3-5 August 2014 in Savannah, Ga.

Each year, IAEE selects a "Legend of the Industry" whose contributions, innovation and leadership have been truly unique and remarkable. An informal setting then allows each participant face-to-face interaction with this industry leader.

Ducate is an exhibition industry veteran. After a 26-year career with the Society of Petroleum Engineers, where he organized events in oil producing provinces around the world, he became president of PGI Exhibitions and built a $25 million dollar international exhibition organizing company. He served as president and CEO of the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) from April 1998 to December 2013. Ducate has served as president of the Trade Show Bureau, president of the International Association for Exhibition Management (now IAEE) and chairman of the Convention Liaison Council. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Professional Convention Management Association and the Board of Trustees of the PCMA Foundation.

Ducate has been presented several industry awards, including the IAEE William Hunt Eisenman Award; the TSEA Distinguished Service Award; and the EDPA Hazel Hayes Award. He was inducted into the Convention Liaison Council Hall of Leaders in 1994.

"I am honored to have been selected as this year's Legend of the Industry and look forward to meeting with this year's Institute participants," says Ducate. "This is an industry that is constantly growing and changing, and I look forward to sharing what I have learned over the years with enthusiastic up-and-comers who represent the future of the exhibitions and events industry."

This year's facilitator, Erick Burton, CSP, is founder of the Burton Leadership Center, a 28-acre facility near Kansas City, Mo. It features a Leadership Course designed to develop organizational and personal leadership. His expertise in leadership acceleration is included in his interactive book on leadership and in a personalized leadership assessment called "The Leadership AcceleratorTM." As president of Burton Resources, he has partnered with hundreds of corporations and associations as a professional speaker, facilitator, executive coach and author. He is one of a few speakers in the entire world with the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation.

Both IAEE leadership events are reserved for IAEE members only, and interested members should visit www.iaee.com/kli for details about the registration and application process to ensure they are placed in the appropriate learning experience. Graduates of the 2014 Institute will be recognized at Expo! Expo! IAEE's Annual Meeting & Exhibition to be held 9-11 December 2014 in Los Angeles, Calif. Title sponsors of this year's Krakoff Leadership Institute are: Anaheim Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau, San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau and Visit Baltimore.
