Following is the official communication sent to clients and vendors of the
37 year old company:
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of our
co-founder and CEO, Michelle Stacy, after a 7 year battle with ovarian
cancer. Although Michelle stepped away from daily operations some 20 years
ago, the company she built has carried forward her integrity,
straight-forward talk, and customer-centric ideals into our 37th year.
Radius Display Products is very much a family, and Michelle will be missed
greatly and will forever remain our guiding light.
Michelle was born in 1953 in Lawrence, Kansas, and spent her adult life in
Dallas. Upon arriving in Dallas, while watching a sailboat race, she was
literally thrown overboard by friends who wanted her to meet the locals.
Little did her friends know that, once she swam to shore, she would meet
the love of her life...sailing. On shore was Hobie Cat Fleet 23. Michelle
started competing and winning, and eventually became commodore of that
fleet. In 1981 she won the Womens 14' Hobie Cat National Championship.
After retiring from competitive sailing she began cruising on larger boats
and started taking friends along. It is on these voyages, mostly in the
West Indies, that she was happiest: among her family and friends, sharing
great times and beautiful sunsets. Oh, how Michelle loved a great sunset!
We will never see one and not think of her.About the time she started her sailing career of course, Michelle started
at Display Products (later Radius Display Products) as employee #2. In
those early days, along with employee #1, Larry Crumlish, she covered
sales, marketing, graphics, production, and delivery, and even a bit of
office custodial. Michelle thrived in what was, at the time, a male
dominated industry, and grew the company in the increasingly competitive
portable exhibit market, and subsequently became the driving force and
eventually CEO of the company.
A practical lifestyle and a good succession plan allowed Michelle to
retire at age 40 and kick her sailing adventures into high gear. She took
many trips to the West Indies where she captained groups of friends and
family. In the final months of her battle against cancer, she returned to
the islands one last time- this time shore-bound- with a big group of
friends in tow. She said she wanted to "breathe the Caribbean air one last
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 11:00am at
Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home, 2812 Midwestern Parkway, Wichita Falls, TX
76308. If you are able to attend, please wear your best Caribbean attire
(or colorful tropical attire). Michelle wouldn't have it any other way.
In lieu of flowers, Michelle requested donations to organizations that
were dear to her:
Possum Kingdom Women's Scholarship Fund, Union Gospel Mission, and Hospice
of Wichita Falls.
