Expo Logic Wishes Marge Kozak Well in Retirement
If you've been in trade show management for as long as we have, you know that the technology supporting our business has come a long, long way. Keeping up with the evolution of technology is what allows us to customize solutions and deliver value to our clients in the most efficient way possible.
Today we shine the spotlight on an Expo Logic veteran who has witnessed this evolution first hand. As we say goodbye to Marge Kozak and wish her well in retirement, let’s take a closer look at how she has helped us remain innovators in technology for almost three decades.
TAPES, PINS, AND CHIPS, OH MY
When Marge first started with us in 1987, the company went by the name World Wide Registration Systems. We used a system called AMOS, and there was of course no on-site integration. She recalls registration data being saved to VHR tape from a main computer, and then taking that tape to the show. From VHR tapes we moved on to streamers, which were faster but we only had two – here she remembers some feisty battles over them among the Account Managers.
Marge’s job in those days required knowledge of hardware and a fair amount of heavy lifting.
"We had to learn how to take a tower apart and reset chips. This was because when the computers were shipped they would get tossed around and the chips would come loose. We also had to learn how to solder the cables. We used either 21 pin to 9 pin. Learning how to troubleshoot the printers was a necessity. Back then equipment; such as, monitors and printers were extremely heavy because of their size.”
THE IMPORTANCE OF DIVERSITY
Marge held down a variety of positions prior to starting at Expo Logic.
She was in the food & service industry, worked for Great Bear Spring Water Company, and even repossessed cars for a short period of time. Marge’s wide array of skills and strong work ethic allowed her to develop and grow throughout her career, no matter what challenges came her way.
And because Marge is such a diverse individual, it’s not surprising that diversity is part of what attracted to her Expo Logic. "I love how diversified the work is, you just never get bored. The company is constantly growing and changing.”
A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP
The arrival of Jeff Cooper, president and CEO, revolutionized the company. As a longtime employee, Marge has taken special notice of Jeff’s positive influence. While the staff once relied on inefficient systems and unreliable programs, Jeff ushered in a new era of stability and organization.
After Jeff changed the technology that Expo Logic used, the company became far more efficient and productive. Of course, hard workers like Marge continued to contribute to our growing success: she once rode in a car for hours with a huge computer monitor in her lap to ensure that a show at the Javits Convention Center went off without a hitch!
FOND FAREWELL AND BEST WISHES
Marge notes that her job over the years has often been stressful, but fulfilling. "Once an event is over, it's satisfying to hear our client’s appreciation and how we played a huge part of the success."
Now it’s our turn to tell Marge how much we appreciate her 27 years of service and dedication to making Expo Logic a long term success. We’re proud to have her as an employee, and wish her the best in her retirement. May the only technology you need now be a Kindle and a beach chair in the sand!
