Hargrove to Serve as General Contractor for U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit
Hargrove, Inc., a national company that produces special events, trade show experiences and custom and rental exhibits recently served as general contractor for the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit that took place from August 4-6 in Washington, D.C. Nearly 50 heads of state, delegations from 51 counties and over 1,200 members of the press attended the Summit.
As general contractor for the Summit, Hargrove worked closely with the U.S. State Department’s Major Events and Conferences staff to execute the event. Specifically, Hargrove created and produced all design aspects, fabricated complete event environments, managed the production and installation of the overall event and oversaw all technical services (including AV, lights, audio, etc.).
“We are honored to have been part of such a historic event and worked hard to create an environment that captured the prestige of this unprecedented summit,” said Tim McGill, CEO of Hargrove. “Our decades of experience producing international summits and global events allowed us to successfully meet the challenge of creating complex and layered meeting venues in highly secure federal buildings in downtown Washington, D.C.”
In conjunction with the Summit, Hargrove also designed, fabricated and produced several offsite events, including a large media center at the U.S. Institute of Peace, a spousal event at the Kennedy Center and the AGOA Forum at the World Bank.
“Producing this particular Summit presented a unique set of challenges,” said Ron Bracco, executive director of events at Hargrove. “For example, two of the venues were highly secure and fully operational office buildings. Hargrove’s creativity came out in full force when producing this event, fabricating both complete venue transformations, as well as multi-purpose event environments.”
In addition to the U.S.-Africa Summit, Hargrove has produced the past five global Summits hosted by the U.S.: the 2012 NATO Chicago Summit, 2012 G8 Summit, 2011 Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation, 2010 Nuclear Security Summit and 2009 Pittsburgh Summit. Hargrove has also executed a variety of large national events, such as the 2013 and 2009 Presidential Inaugurations and the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC. In all, Hargrove produces over a thousand events annually.
