Galen Poss Selected as IAEE's Legend of the Industry for 2013 IAEE Krakoff Leadership Institute

Tuesday, the International Association of Exhibitions and Events™ (IAEE) announces that Galen Poss, CEM has been selected as the 2013 "Legend of the Industry" for this year’s IAEE Krakoff Leadership Institute to be co-located on 24-26 August with the IAEE Southeastern Chapter Annual Southeastern Classic in Hilton Head, SC.
The Krakoff Leadership Institute provides professional development for a group of industry professionals who were selected by the Krakoff Leadership Institute Committee as the industry’s future leaders based on their application and extensive review. Each year, IAEE selects a "Legend of the Industry" whose contributions, innovation and leadership have been truly unique and remarkable. An informal setting then allows each participant face-to-face interaction with this industry leader.
Galen Poss, CEM, is COO for dmg::events, which owns and operates events globally in the construction, oil& gas, digital marketing and executive training sectors. He was president of Hanley-Wood Exhibitions, a division of Hanley-Wood, LLC from its inception in January 2000 until June of 2009. Prior to joining Hanley-Wood Exhibitions, Poss spent six years as president of the Dallas Division of Miller Freeman, Inc. in Dallas, Texas. Poss began his career in the trade show industry in 1977 in sales with the Greater New Orleans Tourist and Convention Commission. In 1983, he formed Precision Planning & Sales (PPS), Inc., an exhibitions management company, providing exhibition and conference services for associations. Poss sold PPS to Miller Freeman in November of 1993.

IAEE members and exhibitions and events industry professionals are invited to submit their applications through 7 June 2013, and the participants selected for the IAEE Krakoff Leadership Institute are judged on the following criteria: · Evidence of at least three years of full-time experience in the exhibitions and events industry · A personal commitment to, and passion for, the exhibitions and events industry · An indication of their willingness and ability to become a thought leader and motivator of others · A commitment to remain actively involved in the Institute · Insight into how they view the future of the exhibitions and events industry and how they propose to influence that future
This year’s facilitator, Erick Burton, CSP, is founder of the Burton Leadership Center, a 28-acre facility near Kansas City, Mo. It features a Leadership Course designed to develop organizational and personal leadership. His expertise in leadership acceleration is included in his interactive book on leadership and in a personalized leadership assessment called "The Leadership Accelerator™." As President of Burton Resources, he has partnered with hundreds of corporations and associations as a professional speaker, facilitator, executive coach, and author. He is one of a few speakers in the entire world with the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation.Graduates of the 2013 Institute will be recognized at Expo! Expo! IAEE's Annual Meeting & Exhibition to be held 10-12 December 2013 in Houston, Texas.
