SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals Acquires A.D. Handy Company

3/12/2009 - SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals (SmartSource Rentals, Hauppauge, NY), the nation's largest provider of computers, audio-visual equipment and related technology, has announced its acquisition of A.D. Handy Company (Allston, MA), a leading audio-visual company serving the Boston area for over 100 years. The acquisition is the 17th for SmartSource which completed its first acquisition 20 years ago.

According to SmartSource Vice President Steve Shatsoff, "A.D. Handy is a great organization with a century-long tradition of providing superior client services in the audio visual market. We've had a working relationship with the company for almost ten years now, supplying them with various IT products. During that time, we have come to recognize that they share a similar value system, reflecting high standards of customer service, backed by high quality products. They were a natural fit for our organization."

As a result of the acquisition, SmartSource added 17 new employees including A.D. Handy's top executive, Jim Mack, who has been retained as Branch Sales Manager. This acquisition brings SmartSource's total employee count to approximately 275. The former A.D. Handy staff members, who currently serve in the company's headquarters in Allston, MA and Brighton, MA warehouse, will be integrated into SmartSource's current Boston-metro area office in Waltham by year's end.

This latest acquisition follows SmartSource's first quarter of 2008 acquisition of ICC Computer Rentals (Glendale Heights, IL). At the time, SmartSource President and founder Julian Sandler noted that the ICC acquisition was "a giant step in the fulfillment of our corporate vision to be the provider of choice for corporate computer and audio visual rentals nationwide." That acquisition gave SmartSource broader market coverage in the north central U.S. The acquisition of A.D. Handy further shores up the company's strong foothold on the East Coast where the company began on Long Island, New York 25 years ago.
