Star Exhibits & Environments Supports Community Outreach by Partnering with Local Charities

Star Exhibits & Environment employees dedicated nearly 200 hours of their time and energies in support of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, the Community Emergency Assistance (CEAP) Back to School Program and Feed My Starving Children during August and September.
Each quarter Star’s Implementation Team, a select group of informal leaders, identifies areas of the company that have opportunity for improvement and outreach. In recognition of these difficult economic times and the increasing need for community involvement, efforts were aligned with causes, which matched well with the employee’s skill set and personal passion.
Given the many skilled carpenters Star employs, Twin Cities Habitat for
Humanity was chosen as one of the community outreach causes. Approximately 20 employees volunteered their time and talents to work on a multiple-unit home site along side Habitat staff, volunteers, and Habitat homeowners in Oakdale, Minnesota on August 5th and 6th. Harry Hoselton, internal project leader for the program observed, “Our employees were eager to volunteer and were really gratified by the results they saw each day as the units neared completion.”
In support of CEAP’s Back to School Program, Star employees donated over 400 school supplies to help fill the backpacks of children less fortunate than their own. The program is dedicated to helping children from all of Anoka County, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, and East Champlin start the school year off prepared. Julie Gustafson, who hosted the internal drive remarked, “The employees at Star are so amazing! Prior to start of collection, I had communicated to the Star team via our company Intranet the details of our participation in the school drive. To my surprise, an entire bin was filled with supplies before the end of the first day!”
Believing there is no better investment to make than in the future of our children, Star employees packed over 18,000 nutritious, life-saving meals for Feed My Starving Children during a two-day period in August. The organization provides and ships meals to over 60 countries around the world.
“We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee,” American children’s rights activist, Marian Wright Edelman stated. Star’s Implementation Team plans to continue challenging its employees to invest in community outreach during these unique economic times by encouraging employee participation in Toys for Tots, making Thanksgiving Dinner bags and again Feed My Starving Children throughout the months of November and December.
