Hargrove Successfully Provides Media Service Space for Iowa Caucus
Hargrove, Inc. successfully transformed the atrium at Capitol Square in Des Moines, IA, to fit 2,000 members of the media for the Iowa Caucus. The media services center was open from January 29 through February 2, with the caucus occurring Monday, February 1.
“We are honored to have provided media service space for such an important and historic event as the 2016 Iowa Caucus,” said Tim McGill, Hargrove CEO. “We are proud of our long history of providing media service expertise, including events such as the NATO Chicago Summit 2012 and the 2012 Democratic National Convention. This experience helped us successfully convert this venue into a strategically planned work space for 2,000 members of the media.”
Hargrove created a media service space large enough to fit 2,000 registered members of the media from 500 organizations. The space included more than 350 workspaces, 54 stand-up locations and four network anchor positions. These workspaces were placed among the general media area, radio row and three additional suites at Capitol Square. Additionally, Hargrove built an intricate stage set using multiple layers of visually appealing electoral season themed graphics and a 16-foot-tall LED screen that displayed live results. This set acted as the backdrop for many of the network anchors who went live from Iowa!
Hargrove supplied, installed and managed the IT and power services required throughout every room and meeting space utilized by the media for the caucus, which included a dedicated IT team which provided power circuits, internet drops, and cabling, fiber and converters for more than
50 video connections and 50 phone lines. IT infrastructure support was also provided, as was a satellite truck used to minimize the cable runs.
In addition to installing these IT and power services, Hargrove had staff on site 24 hours a day to troubleshoot any power or connectivity issues.
More than 5 miles of cable was needed to produce the media service center, along with one half mile of carpet and 800 linear feet of drape. Each cable had to be hidden or secured to avoid walking/trip hazards and each space had to be clearly identifiable from the next. Hargrove took special care to ensure the media center was welcoming and comfortable for the reporters who would be working there throughout the weekend.
The Media Service Center was a vital part of the caucus media coverage and a successful kick-off to Hargrove’s participation in the 2016 Presidential election season.
