Charles Pappas has worked for EXHIBITOR Magazine for the exhibition industry since 2002 and is its de facto historian. From the first World Exposition in London in 1851 to the latest in Dubai in 2020, these World Expositions have changed massively and influenced life. Each time something has emerged or become popular, “Expositions are the timekeepers of progress. They record the world’s advancement. They stimulate the energy, enterprise, and intellect of the people; and quicken human genius. ... These buildings will disappear; this creation of art and beauty and industry will perish from sight, but their influence will remain …” After Expo 2020 is closed and its brilliant pavilions dismantled, the genius of its architects will live on, with each structure an individual stanza of an epic poem.
