FG|PG and Oculus Produce Biggest Event in VR for Sixth Year in a Row
More than 3000 AR/VR developers, creators, and fans gathered at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center on September 25th and 26th for the sixth annual Oculus Connect (OC6). With major brand announcements, thought-provoking keynotes, and mind-blowing activations, this year’s conference lived up to its press-worthy reputation. FG|PG has been the co-producer of all six Oculus Connect Developer Conferences, proudly partnering with the VR leader to deliver an exceptional experience for attendees since 2014.
OC6 continued its trajectory as a must-attend event and delivered the industry-revolutionizing announcements that the VR giant is known for. On day one, Oculus revealed “key innovations that will change the way we interact in VR and AR; the latest updates to [their] all-in-one gaming headset, Oculus Quest, enhanced developer tools to optimize workflows and app performance; end-to-end solutions for VR enterprise; and a brand-new social VR world called Facebook Horizon.” On day two, they shared their “plans to build the future of computing with people at the center...a platform organized around people, not apps.” *1
At a proprietary event the size of OC6, there is a lot of ground to cover and countless demos and sessions to experience. Flow within the hall, easy-to-navigate way-finding, manageable lines, and energetic brand ambassadors are all essential elements that need to be orchestrated in perfect harmony to achieve success.
There are unique challenges with producing an event like OC6. As with any technology that is still in development, creating environments that optimize demo experiences from both a technical and aesthetic perspective is critical. A consistent through line for our team is providing abundant opportunities for attendees to receive personal, in-depth demo experiences. This is where FGPG’s partnership with Oculus over the past five years has, time and time again, proven a winning combination.
This year, FG|PG met and rose to the challenge of fabricating and organizing attendee journeys for over eighty individual demo stations, the most of any given year in the history of Oculus’s conferences. These demo experiences were split into two main areas.
The Demo Hall focused on the newest available iterations of Oculus technology and previews of the latest game announcements, including Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond and Vader Immortal: Episode II. The Innovation Hall provided attendees a glimpse into the future of Oculus’s capabilities and offerings, such as Hand Tracking on Oculus Quest, Shared Spaces, and Facebook Horizon.
Striking the balance between brand aesthetics, an emphasis on Oculus’s essential developer partnerships, and the critical technical requirements that have to be in sync for Oculus hardware to deliver a fully immersive demo experience is built into the DNA of FG|PG’s years-long partnership with the VR leader. In a span of less than two months, FG|PG worked in lockstep with Oculus’s creative events teams as well as with multiple teams of engineers and hardware developers to build a cohesive space for guests to gather and celebrate the present and future of Oculus VR.
