Bright Lights for Tight Spaces
Small exhibitors often feel that a robust lighting strategy is out of their reach due to limited square footage, minuscule budgets, and a perceived dearth of space-conscious options. But given the number of products on the market, adding a little illumination to a skimpy stand is easier than one might think. By Brian Dukerschein
Expanding Horizons
The Expand LightBox Portable system from Expand International of America Inc. functions as a freestanding backlit wall, or it can be integrated with the company's GrandFabric modules to create countless configurations. Available in nine sizes ranging from 31.5-inches square to 94.5-inches square, the LightBox Portable comprises a lightweight frame that can be assembled sans tools, single- or double-sided pillowcase graphics, and premounted LED lights with custom laser-cut lenses designed to eliminate hot spots for this frame's specific profile. The system is delivered in a nylon carrying bag but also fits inside the company's PodiumCase, which offers safe storage on the road and can be turned into a complementing freestanding counter in the booth. A Bright Idea
Timeless design meets old-school cool in Display Supply & Lighting Inc.'s line of decorative LED pendant, ceiling mount, and sconce lighting fixtures, which are available in either a brushed nickel or antique brass finish. Pendant options include one-, three-, seven-, and 11-port canopy mounts; track adapters; swag hooks; three sizes of optional cone shades; and a choice of black, gray, brown, or red 16-foot fabric-covered cords. Toss in a range of nine LED filament bulbs in multiple shapes and wattages, and exhibitors have a plethora of ways to add a soft, warm glow to any part of their stands. Set Lasers to Stun
Turn heads on the trade show floor with Laser Wire from Ellumiglow.com. The next generation of electroluminescent (EL) wire systems, Laser Wire is available in lengths from 1 to 10 meters and is designed to add dramatic accent lighting to both static displays and mobile applications – think tricking out your staff uniforms or a corporate mascot. The optical glass fibers are lit by a small proprietary Opal Drive powered by either a rechargeable battery or a Micro USB cable. Additional features include blink and fade modes, as well as the option of creating multicolored gradients by attaching an Opal Drive at each end of the wire. Even cooler: When compared to traditional EL systems, Laser Wire is incredibly flexible, operates silently, and emits light that is up to 10 times brighter. Light Work
Make your booth graphics pop with the PAL25XL LED Display Arm Light, which casts a bright-white beam while generating no radiant heat. These powerful lighting accessories feature a streamlined design and use AD/DC rectification technology that allows up to six sets of 11 arm lights to draw electricity from a power strip connected to a single outlet. Measuring 21 inches long, the fixtures can be modified with "barn door" light deflectors, colored gel sheets, and a warm-light filter to achieve a wide range of lighting effects. Power Play
The Joule Case is a high-wattage battery system capable of powering a small exhibit for an entire day. Comprising stackable lithium-ion or sealed lead acid batteries that allow exhibitors to customize the scale of their power supplies, the Joule Case offers multiple AC and USB outlets and can be completely recharged in less than 2.5 hours via an integrated 200-watt charger. Counter Productive
For a lightbox that is as functional as it is eye-catching, check out the Luce model from Birttani Display Inc., which can double as a reception counter. The product is 39 inches tall, 46 inches wide, and 15 inches deep, and it comes with a reversible matte- and glossy-finish countertop. Using silicone-edge graphics, you can make the lightbox a single- or double-sided display, and the aluminum frame embedded with LED ladder lights snaps together quickly for fast setup. Glow Figure
Monitor stands often have all the appeal of generic office furniture, but the LumaKiosk lights up in any number of hues courtesy of internal LEDs that can be controlled by remote. Available in a variety of packages ranging from a standalone base unit to a comprehensive system complete with a 55-inch high-definition touchscreen, media player, and LED-lit acrylic header, the LumaKiosk can be quickly disassembled and packed into a rolling case. (Units with touchscreens require two cases.) Contact: Exhibitry, Houston, 281-240-2212, www.exhibitry.com
Step Into the Light
Call attention to – and support your investment in – your back-wall graphics with the SL-3500 LED "wall-washing" stem light. With a diameter of just 2 inches, a single one of these powerful illuminators can cover an area approximately 6 feet wide, allowing exhibitors to create smooth, even lighting effects with fewer fixtures. The SL-3500 is available in countless styles and configurations, with options including custom color finishes, stem lengths and bends, and daisy chaining. LED 12V Mini Flex Neon Lights make it easy to add accent illumination to recessed product displays, shelving, and other confined areas. Measuring a mere 5 mm wide and 12 mm high, these ultraslim tubular elements bend around corners, cast a uniform glow with no hot spots, and have an operating lifespan of up to 50,000 hours. Available in seven colors (red, green, blue, purple, yellow, warm white, and cool white), Mini Flex Neon Lights are rated for use in wet and dry environments and can be trimmed at 1-inch intervals. Make Waves
Makitso USA's two pint-size iterations of its WaveLight Air Counters are perfect for small exhibits. The Square Mini model measures roughly 24 inches square and 22 inches high, ideal dimensions for a seating-area side table, while the approximately 39-by-24-by-22-inch Rectangular Mini functions as a coffee table or low-profile product display. Both units (which pack flat for easy shipping) comprise a collapsible plastic core, internal LEDs for 360-degree backlighting, a custom silicone-edge fabric shell, and a sturdy plastic countertop. The Sweet Spot
The 10-foot-tall Forester mobile light pylon boasts six LED spots that produce a warm color temperature. The LEDs are mounted on a three-phase rail for easy positioning, making this unit capable of eliminating dark corners and highlighting multiple focal points without the use of suspended structures and expensive rigging.
