fter inspiring millions with its Futurama exhibit at the 1939 World's Fair, General Motors Co. (GM) tried it again with Futurama II at the 1964 World's Fair in New York. Recordings with GM's predictions were transmitted through chair speakers. By 2024, GM surmised, we would live in lunar colonies, Antarctic outposts, and even undersea resorts, one of whose multitentacled residents is shown here. Atomic-powered submarines would reach these deep-sea destinations 10,000 feet beneath the surface, where men would mine precious minerals while a privileged few vacationed in the Hotel Atlantis.
