Candy Shop
Inspired by chocolate-making equipment he saw at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Milton Hershey had been churning out nectarous goods for 15 years by the time his Hershey Chocolate Co. exhibited here at the Philadelphia Candy Show in 1910. While the company offered toothsome temptations such as chocolates shaped like cigars, bicycles, and lobsters, it had only recently hit its sweet spot. Introducing the Hershey Kiss in 1907, Hershey helped ensure the future generations of chocoholics who, by 2013, would be gobbling up 11.2 pounds of chocolate annually.
