DISTRITO T-Mobile Exceeds Expectations and Numbers Six Months After Opening

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Since last year’s opening, DISTRITO T-Mobile has exceeded all expectations in economic impact, job creation, and the number of visitors, becoming the main entertainment and gastronomic destination of the Island. According to DISTRITO T-Mobile General Manager, Francisco Mariani, from June 2021 to December 2021, the entertainment complex received more than 1.7 million visitors, with a financial impact of about $50 million, in addition to the creation of over 4,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs.
Located in the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority, DISTRITO T-Mobile has become a catalyst for the revitalization of the heart of San Juan with the integration of gastronomic concepts, including Barullo Taberna Española, Lupe Reyes Mexican restaurant, Sazón Cocina Criolla, La Burguesía, La Central by Mario Pagán, Dulcinea Ice Cream & Churros, Pudge’s Pizza, La Barrita del Lado, Arena Medalla, Denko Asian Eatery, and Verbena Food Fair; the impressive Popular Plaza; the ALOFT San Juan Hotel; the Coca-Cola Music Hall; the latest digital technology at Caribbean Cinemas VIP; and adrenaline-filled adventures at TOROVERDE Urban Park. DISTRITO T-Mobile rolled out a tiered opening on March 29, 2020 and held a formal inauguration on August 14, 2021.
According to Mariani, "From our launch to now, we have exceeded our expectations in terms of economic impact and continuous growth. After the formal inauguration last August, our impact was immediate and impressive. The acceptance and support we’ve received from the public have been extraordinary, demonstrating how we’ve managed to genuinely represent the best of Puerto Rico. In 2022, we’re facing a new phase of growth, full of opportunities that will benefit our economy and continue to put forth the best of our culture and our people."
Mariani explained that the unique entertainment center was conceptualized and developed to offer experiences with a local flavor. For that, "PRISA Group paved the way to host a wide range of talent and entertainment concepts developed on the Island, highlighting the authenticity we’ve served to the community to both locals and visitors."
Known as the heart of DISTRITO T-Mobile, Popular Plaza has become a place of constant activity, where concerts, fashion shows, artistic presentations, dances, and even yoga and Zumba classes have been held. It is a vibrant, open space, with impressive state-of-the-art LED screens, welcoming all kinds of events for the enjoyment of all visitors, free of cost. DISTRITO T-Mobile has supported hundreds of local artists by providing the forum to present at least six shows per week with over 700 artistic concepts and an investment of $300,000.
Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Music Hall has hosted 65 large-scale events, which, with the capacity established by the respective executive orders imposed since the opening, managed to receive over 110,000 ticketed visitors. In less than a year, Coca-Cola Music Hall has ranked number 31 in ticket sales in the theater category worldwide according to Pollstar, an entity specialized in the live entertainment industry. The Aloft San Juan Hotel exceeded its projections as well with 7,200 room nights booked. TOROVERDE Urban Park received over 110,000 visitors in addition to hosting countless events. Caribbean Cinemas VIP also had a successful half-year despite the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
DISTRITO T-MOBILE ENTERS A NEW PHASE OF GROWTH
Managing Partner of DISTRITO T-Mobile Carlos Amy mentioned that "90 percent of the project is currently operating, and the remaining 10 percent is still available for lease by companies that want to be part of this incredible project that has given a new air to Puerto Rico’s Convention Center District Authority and has complemented the entertainment offerings on the Island.”

Director of Sales and Marketing of DISTRITO T-Mobile Nelia Villanueva presented the new advertising campaign, "Everything EXTRAORDINARY Happens Here," which demonstratesthe various attractions and highlights the variety of experiences, adventures, flavors, and innovations available day after day. Villanueva explained that the campaign, launching in digital and traditional media, reflects that the entertainment center is, "a Puerto Rican cultural experience enhanced by innovation and technology." Villanueva reinforces that DISTRITO T-Mobile shapes its diverse entertainment agenda by combining cultural authenticity with a variety of events, to create surprising and memorable experiences.
"Since its conceptualization, DISTRITO T-Mobile aimed to become a space to celebrate human connection, having as its protagonist the creativity, the flavors of our cuisine, and the joy of our people and culture. OPTIMISTIC PROJECTIONS FOR 2022
Considering restrictions in occupancy, reservations, sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic during the first six months of DISTRITO T-Mobile’s opening the annualized base of these figures projects to comfortably exceed economic forecasts during the first year of operation. DISTRITO T-Mobile has also announced that new attractions will open soon.
"More venues are expected to open in 2022 and in light of the numbers we are seeing on an annualized basis DISTRITO T-Mobile projects to exceed 2021 visit figures by a wide margin with a projection of over 3.2 million visitors at the end of the first year of operation. We have demonstrated that DISTRITO T- Mobile is an anchor for the economy, and we’re ready to double the economic impact achieved and sustain the accelerated sales pace we have seen to date in this our first year."
From an economic perspective, the complex will boost tourism and residential development in the immediate vicinity and even promote other areas of Puerto Rico by showcasing images sourced from across the island on thousands of square feet of state of the art LED screens to dazzle visitors. For the rest of 2022, Coca-Cola Music Hall has over 80 concerts and private events scheduled.
In the area of entertainment, "DISTRITO T-Mobile has gone above and beyond to revolutionize the entertainment and culture industry by helping to keep the entertainment industry relevant in the growing global business," said Mariani. DISTRITO T-Mobile has captured international attention with events like Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve’s first Spanish-speaking countdown, which had an audience of more than 19 million people, to the recent visit of Telemundo’s Hoy Día, which has an audience of 16 million people.
