The Uzbekistan pavilion, titled Garden of Knowledge – A Laboratory for a Future Society, invites visitors to experience a nation in transformation – from deep-rooted tradition to a forward-looking, knowledge-based society. The pavilion offers an immersive and poetic journey inspired by natural growth: from soil to garden, from past to future.
Architecturally, the pavilion combines a robust, clay-and-brick base — symbolizing heritage and rootedness — with a sculptural forest of timber columns referencing traditional temple and palace architecture. The open-air roof structure invites exchange and contemplation. This meeting of cultures is reflected in the materials themselves: Uzbek earthen construction is combined with sugi wood sourced from the Osaka region, bridging craftsmanship from Uzbekistan and Japan. All materials are locally sourced and reusable, including NFC-tagged wood and reclaimed bricks. The modular, glue-free construction exemplifies circular design thinking.
Inside, the exhibition unfolds in thematic zones on sustainability, innovation, and education. Interactive media and glowing plinths showcase Uzbekistan’s green economy, technological advances, and evolving educational landscape, including digital tools, vocational programs, and cultural preservation. A 360° media platform forms the emotional climax. As it rises, a multisensory projection immerses visitors in Uzbekistan’s transformation, culminating in the symbolic blooming of a pomegranate tree, which is a metaphor for unity and renewal.
The rooftop garden concludes the journey, offering a tranquil space for reflection and cultural dialogue, framed by traditional tea ceremonies and children’s voices sharing hopes for the future. By blending architecture, storytelling, and ecological responsibility, the Uzbekistan pavilion embodies Expo 2025’s theme Designing Future Society for Our Lives. It celebrates a nation in motion — open, connected, and ready to grow.
