Exhibitor Group Announces New Association Focus Podcast

8/11/2023

There are more than 5 million podcasts around the globe, broadcasting a whopping 70 million episodes between them in 150 languages, ranging from English to Estonian. And yet not a single one of them focuses on the unique needs of the face-to-face events industries and associations.

Until now. Created by Tommy Goodwin from the Exhibitions and Conferences Alliance (ECA), Mark Johnson from The EXHIBITOR Group, and Mike Morrison from WS Display, the Association Focus Podcast will give a long-sought-after voice to an overlooked and under-reported segment.

“We mainly launched it because the advocacy side, as well as all the associations, did not have a vehicle to promote themselves and discuss the issues concerning them,” says Morrison. “So we approached a dozen associations that support the ECA and told them we wanted to give them a home where they can talk about what they’ve got coming up.”

The podcast will take on a wide and ever-changing array of subjects crucial to the live event and experiential marketing industries in today's world. For example, the inaugural episode tackled the results of the latest Legislation Action Day, which took place last June on Capitol Hill, where the ECA worked to reverse the severe impact the ongoing visa and passport backlog has had on international exhibitors attempting to enter the U.S. The episode also enjoyed a lively in-depth talk with Michael McMahon, president and CEO of Hill and Partners, vice president of the Experiential Designers and Producers Association (EDPA), and a key member of the group’s Future Workforce Committee. McMahon discussed the EDPA exhibit at the American School Counselor Association’s (ASCA) Annual Conference, where it advocated for the trade show and event fields as career choices the conference’s 4,000 attendees could offer to students nationwide.

Bookending the episode were updates by Cathy Breden from the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR), Julie Kagy, director of operations at Exhibition Services and Contractors (ESCA), and Kai Hattendorf, CEO of UFI, the Global Association for the Exhibitions and Business Events, on their organizations’ latest efforts. “Every episode we’ll have someone representing another one of the 12 associations we’re working with,” says Morrison. “It’s a great listen.”

Scheduled to run bi-weekly every other Thursday as part of the EXHIBITORNow podcast, which covers the latest news and offers interviews with thought leaders in the trade show and live event world, the Association Focus episodes are available at www.ExhibitorOnline.com/Focus.
