Volvo Group Colombia S.A.S.'s extensive use of recycled or recyclable materials and commitment to minimizing waste made its exhibit a model example of Green practices. Nature-inspired design elements added to the space's eco-minded vibe, while an array of living plants offered a punch of color and reinforced the Green theme.
"The geometry of nature obeys organic lines," said Acosta of his inspiration for the booth's focal points, such as the rigged element that spanned nearly the entire length of the exhibit and was modeled after the shape of a bird's wing. Built using plywood sourced from certified sustainable forests (as was nearly every piece of wooden exhibitry, including the many planters of flowers and the in-booth cafe), the enveloping ribbed structure measured slightly more than 13 feet wide and 16 feet tall. Similarly, two large windows looking into a client meeting room were overlaid with wooden cutouts resembling the veins of a tree leaf.
When Fitrans ended, the laminated floor was donated to a local school, a philanthropic and eco-minded move that earned big points with judges, one of whom said, "When you take into account all the Green thought that went into this exhibit, it's really quite remarkable." E
