SmithBucklin's Cassie Thompson Honored with Young Professional Award

SmithBucklin, the association management and services company more organizations turn to than any other, is pleased to announce that Cassie Thompson, Manager, Event Services, was named the 2015 Young Professional of the Year by the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE). She will be honored during IAEE's Expo! Expo! Annual Meeting & Exhibition on Dec. 3 in Baltimore, Md. 
The Young Professional of the Year Award recognizes outstanding professional performance in an individual who is advancing the standing of young professionals in the events and exhibition industry. The honoree must be 35 years of age or younger and an IAEE member or an employee of an IAEE member company.
"It is a tremendous honor to receive such a respected award," Thompson said. "I'm passionate about encouraging young professionals to get involved in their industry's professional organizations because I understand the importance of networking and learning while you're becoming established in your career." Thompson serves as the event manager for the Americas' SAP Users' Group (ASUG), a community that uses SAP's business software products and services. She leads the SmithBucklin staff team that supports the delivery of five annual events for ASUG, including a high-profile conference that draws more than 17,000 attendees. She also serves as the event manager for COE, an international professional organization uniting users of Dassault Systèmes software solutions. She oversees COE's annual conference, and her duties include project management, budget management, future site selection and logistics. "I nominated Cassie for this award based on her accomplishments at SmithBucklin and her numerous volunteer activities in our industry," said Dave Weil, Vice President, Event Services. "She brings innovation, strong client stewardship and a true passion for event management. She is adept at managing the unique challenges that come with both smaller and larger shows. What makes Cassie such an incredible professional is that she continues to challenge herself and her team to enhance the event experience and help our client events get to the next level." Her volunteer positions include serving as a member of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) Midwestern Chapter's Board of Directors, and as chairwoman of the chapter's Young Professionals Committee. Thompson has contributed to several committee initiatives, including launching a new scholarship program, revamping the chapter Facebook page and creating a "Young Professional Corner" column in the chapter newsletter. "I wouldn't have won this award without the support of the amazing members of the IAEE Midwestern Chapter's Young Professionals Committee," Thompson said. "This award recognizes the successes our committee has achieved this year." In 2012, Thompson also was honored by IAEE's "20 Under 30" awards program, which provides young professionals with education and professional growth opportunities in the exhibition and events industry.
