Fashion Institute of Technology Congratulates Exhibition & Experience Design Students
12/13/2023
Congratulations to Fashion Institute of Technology Exhibition & Experience Design students who presented their final thesis at Capstone 2023 on Friday! Their outstanding work was reviewed by over 100 industry judges who convened at FIT from all over the country and abroad. During the event, EED students showcased original concepts that they researched, designed, and prototyped. The School of Graduate Studies, Dean Carlson congratulated the students and spoke of their design superpowers. ![]() Their presentations spanned a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from creative solutions for issues related to sleep, neurodivergence, and color-blindness, to explorations into the realms of artificial intelligence to name a few. Program Chair and Professor Christina Lyons said during the evening reception, “all of these graduating students share a passion to make our lives better by creating more meaningful spaces. They strive to use their talents to spearhead change, and to promote well-being and human connection with their work. I am thrilled to know that these passionate and dedicated graduates will soon be influencing our built environment and communities for years to come.” ![]() @fitgradexd extends gratitude to @edpa_association that "partnered with FIT to create one of the world’s leading graduate level educational programs in exhibit design,” said Alex Hill, President of the EDPA Foundation and Solutions Leader at Taylor Visual Impressions. @fitgradexd is also grateful for the invaluable support of @segddesign whose CEO @cybelle_jones_designjoy addressed the graduates: “It’s a long journey, but just remember why you wanted to be a designer, and what drove you and keep it in your heart because I think you have the best profession in the whole world." Congratulations to the 2023 Star Award Winners! FIT Exhibition and Experience Design awarded three Star Awards during the evening reception to Abigail Honor, Founding Partner, Lorem Ipsum Corp.; Jackson Young, UX Design Manager Google; and Michael McMahon, President & CEO, Hill & Partners, for their contributions to the department over the years. Star Award winner Michael McMahon, CEO Hill & Partners said, “Year after year, this amazing team of educators, mentors and leaders at FIT seem to find the best and brightest world shapers to inspire and support. It is quite easy for a company like mine and so many other companies to lean in and play whatever role we can.” While receiving the award, Abigail Honor said to the students: "I am excited to see how you’re going to flourish. The change you’re going to make in our society and the stories you’re going to tell. I’m optimistic and I just want to let you know to continue to dream, continue to be daring with your designs and stories you tell. Don’t ever be scared, and if you are, know that you can overcome it and you will." Jackson Young awarded a 2023 Star Award said, "I often reflect on my experience at FIT. There is such a sense of community from the leadership of Christina and Brenda to the faculty and students, and I am honored to be involved with this program. I have grown as a human, a teacher, and also as a student because the students' work inspires me year after year." The 2023 keynote speaker @dr.z.i.pringle Zorana Pringle, Senior Research Scientist at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, spoke about creativity as a decision. "Fears are not diagnostic of the lack of ability, the lack of talent, the lack of whatever it takes to make it. They are normal parts of the process. You are going to experience them, but you also have the ability to deal with them. And that is the superpower of all of you here." Congratulations FIT Exhibition and Experience Design Graduates: Cameron Ledy, Caroline Siavichay, D. Villella, Emily Tse, Flavia Tonietto, Ivar Theorin, Janelle Sochet, Janine Natalie Edovas, Laura O'Grady, mary oleary, Sonali Agle, Tanisi Ghosh, Wan Ting Lin.
