SmartSource Announces the Appointment of Roy Benear as Director of Sales

HAUPPAUGE, NY - SmartSource®, an ABCOM Technology Group company, one of the nation’s leading technology solutions providers, announced that Roy Benear has been hired as Director of Sales. Benear, who is based in Dallas, Texas, brings a proven track record in business development, strategic growth, and sales force development spanning over 25 years. Over the course of his career, he has successfully generated substantial revenue growth, applying strong skills across key disciplines that include brand development, trend and gap analysis, strategic partnerships, coaching and training, contract negotiations and portfolio optimization. In his new role, Benear will report to SmartSource Sr. Vice President of Sales, George Mader.

His deep experience across key markets such as the association, trade show and booth building segments will further facilitate our focused growth as we offer our clients expanded solutions for all their event needs, including AV and IT technology solutions, badge printing and lead retrieval with customized reporting. Before joining SmartSource, Benear served as Head of Sales for Game Developers Conference and GameDeveloper.com, as well as Digital TV Europe and Television Business International on behalf of Informa Tech’s Media & Entertainment Group (London, UK). Among his achievements was his successful sales leadership in the post-COVID-19 recovery efforts for the Game Developers Conference sales, which resulted in exceeding the 2023 re-booking targets for both exhibit and sponsorship sales. Other successes include his creation of a first-time confirmed exhibitor/sponsor nurture campaign and development of a go-to-market strategy for the rebranding of GameDeveloper.com. Benear’s career also includes his role as Vice President of Exhibits and Specialty Events, Production Group for PSAV. Benear holds several professional certifications including Certified Virtual Events Professional from The Virtual Events Institute, Google Certified Digital Marketing from Google Training Garage, and Certified Instructor from Zenger Miller Management Course. He has also successfully completed the Brand Management-Aligning Business, Brand, and Behavior course from the University of London; the Executive Education Program – Successful Negotiation Strategies from Michigan State University; and the Executive Education Program – Senior Executive Symposium from Zenger Miller Management.
